How about a National Dance Day?

How about a National Dance Day?

Choreographer-turned-director Remo D'Souza, whose film "ABCD: AnyBody Can Dance" is ready for release, has decided to meet government officials to appeal for a National Dance Day.

"I have come with this idea and will appeal the government to have a National Dance Day. And why not? There are so many dances in our country. We are known for so many dances in the whole world, but we don't have a day dedicated to dance, " Remo told.

How did the idea strike him?

"It struck me while doing 'Dance India Dance' and now since I have made a film on dance, I thought we should have one day to celebrate dance. I will be meeting officals this week. Let us see what will happen. I hope they approve it, " he added.

Asked if this is a part of the promotional strategy of his film, he said: "It was never a part of the promotion. But now since the release date of the film is coming close, people will think so. But there is nothing like that."

"It will help the promotion, but I have been trying to do this for the last three years, " he added.

His 3D dance-based film features performers from reality show "Dance India Dance" (DID), which Remo had previously judged.

The show's participants Salman Yusuff Khan, Dharmesh Yelande, Vrushali Chavan, Mayuresh Wadkar and Prince Gupta play central roles in the movie, which has ace choreographers Ganesh Acharya and Prabhudheva as its highlights.

"ABCD..." releases Feb 8.
