Satyamev Jayate: Aamir strongly reacts to Abdul Hakim's death

Aamir Khan stepped into television with the reality show- “Satyamev Jayate”- to bring about a change in the society. It upheld topics that people turn their backs towards. Topics like “domestic violence”, “untouchability”, “female feticide” and “child sexual abuse” were openly spoken about. It also offered help lines to complain against any issue like this.
On one of the episodes, a participant had openly spoken about the Khap panchayat and its bad side. This led to him being killed recently on the 22nd of November, in his village in Bulandshahar, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The victim’s name was Abdul Hakim who had shown the courage of speaking against the panchayat. He was shot dead by five persons publicly. He was on his way to a clinic to get medicines for his wife who was nine months pregnant. He was shot in the public place and he succumbed to the bullet wounds.
Actor Aamir Khan was contacted when the incident happened. He reacted strongly to this sudden development. He appealed to the police to provide his wife Mehawish and their daughter security. Mehawish also revealed that she and her daughter too were threatened to be killed by some of the villagers. Aamir Khan is at the moment in Jaipur and he was quoted as saying to the media, “I was told that Abdul`s village is in the Meerut region and I wanted to go there but can`t go right now due to my pre-scheduled programs.”
He condemned the murder saying, “I have raised the issue at every possible forum and will continue my efforts to bring justice and relief to the aggrieved family.”
Satyamev Jayate was aired on Star network every Sunday. A spokesperson of the channel said, “We strongly condemn the killing of Mr. Abdul Hakim, who was interviewed as part of documentation for the show Satyamev Jayate, specifically for the episode ‘Intolerance to Love’. We offer our deepest condolences and sympathies to Mr. Hakim’s kin and appeal to the investigating agencies to quickly bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book and serve justice to the family."
Abdul Hakim’s family initially claimed that it was an honor killing. Thus the police have not ruled out that possibility. Two people have also been arrested in relation to this case. The prime suspect of this killing is still at large. RPN Singh revealed that the government too has been seriously trying to make changes to the constitution regarding honor killing.
