He entered this industry in the year 2007. His acting career has been till now of a span of five years but his share of films speaks volumes about what he is to be in the years to come. The 28th of September, 1982 marks his birthday. To know more about his life’s escapades and his career, read on.
Early life-
Ranbir was born to the famous couple Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh who in their times have been marvellous actors themselves. He is the grandson of legendary filmmaker and actor Raj Kapoor.
He completed his early education at Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai. Then he pursued method acting at New York’s The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Career-
Before beginning his acting career, Ranbir appeared in two short films: Passion to Love (2002) and India 1964 (2004). Later he worked as an assistant director with Sanjay Leela Bhansali while the latter was working on Black (2005).
It was Sanjay Leela Bhansali who casted him for his film Saawariya opposite Sonam Kapoor who too was debuting with this film. The film released in 2007 and it tanked at the box-office. However, his acting skills did not go unnoticed in this film. His next was a light-hearted romantic comedy titled Bachchna Ae Haseena that released in 2008. He acted alongside three actresses Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba. The film did fairly well.
Ranbir slowly steered towards acting-oriented films. His next was Ayan Mukerji’s Wake Up Sid (2009). His role was that of a spoilt and unambitious young lad. The film also starred well-known actor Konkona Sen Sharma. Ranbir exhibited his brilliance throughout in this film. The film won critical acclaim and was also successful commercially.
Another film that released the same year was Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. The film was an out and out comedy which Ranbir portrayed effortlessly and his comic-timing has been unparalleled since.
“Rocket Singh: Salesman of the year” was his next release that too garnered positive reviews from the critics. His performance in the film was appreciated by the audiences too. The three films of that year were starkly different and this helped him show his talent of adopting any kind of role.
In 2010 released Rajneeti which was a blockbuster. The film exhibited his evolvement and maturity as an actor and firmly paved the way for his success in the industry.
Imtiaz Ali directed Rockstar (2011) is the film that won him his first Best Actor award. At such a young age to have been able to beat the other established stars to win the “Best Actor” award illustrates clearly his ability to perform.
In 2012 released his film Barfi that has been directed by Anurag Basu. The film also starred Priyanka Chopra and newcomer Ileana D’Cruz. He played the character of a deaf and mute in the film. Barfi received overwhelming response from the critics and audiences alike. With a film like this Ranbir has clearly proved that he is here to stay.
His other upcoming film is Ayan Mukerji’s “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani”. It is opposite Deepika Padukone and we can clearly claim that this film too will be remembered among Ranbir’s other incredible films.
